            Biography


            Tom Davoren originally hails from the picturesque Gower peninsula in South Wales.

            Tom has quickly developed a reputation as an exciting young brass-wind composer, his music being commissioned, performed and recorded by artists including the Royal Northern College of Music Wind Orchestra (UK), Leyland Band (UK), Desford Colliery Band (UK), PolySteel Band (UK), BTM Band (Wales), Gunnedah Shire Band (AUS), Pelorus Trust Wellington Band (NZ), Central Band of the Royal Air Force (UK), BASBWE, Jonathan Pippen, Brett Baker, Glenn Van Looy & Kristy Rowe.

            His work has been featured at concerts, contests and festivals across the world, is published by Studio Music Co. and Wright and Round, and has been recorded for CD release and broadcast on BBC Radio.

            As a conductor Tom was Musical Director of the BTM Band throughout 2008 - 2011 and has worked at home and abroad with brass and wind bands of all ages and abilities. He is also the Artistic Director of the Cardiff New Brass Festival and manages the journal of the British Association of Symphonic Bands and Wind Ensembles, 'Winds'. 

            Tom has studied tuba with Nigel Seaman at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, completed Bachelors and Masters degrees in Composition at Cardiff University with Anthony Powers and Arlene Sierra, and is currently undertaking  PhD research with Prof. John Pickard at the University of Bristol. In 2009/10 he was awarded a full research scholarship from the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the Welsh Livery Guild Music Bursary and in 2011 was a BASCA British Composer Award nominee. He is also member of Composers of Wales.
